After an eventful night (Johanna had a
little encounter with a spider trying to crawl inside her ear), and a
quick bowl of cereal and some coffee, we left Hotel Premiere Classe.
Everything looks and feels very French
now. We are cycling through little French villages with Boucheries
and Boulangeries on every corner. We can't help but stop for a little
Quiche Lorraine and a tartlette de pommes for lunch which we enjoyed
outside a village church.
We are now finding ourselves right in
the middle of the Rhone-Alps, the atmosphere is starting to be very
misty with thick rain clouds hanging low in mountains that are
densely covered with trees of various shades of green. It almost
looks like the rain forest.
On this thought it started raining
heavily and our waterproof jackets, shoes, gloves and everything else
got tried and tested once again. As the water started leaking in
through the top of our shoes, our feet got still soaked and so did
everything else.
We arrived at the Hotel Campanille
outside Voiron early at around 2pm but completely trenched.
It was a bank holiday and nothing was
open, no supermarkets and also most restaurants were closed, so we
decided to go for dinner at the Campanille restaurant. We had an all
you can eat starter buffet, a main course and an all you can eat
dessert buffet for 23EUR. Not too bad and we definitely made the most
of it.
Also we decided that next time we book
a hotel we will try to get something in the town centre. We also
decided this evening to change our route slightly and go through
Valence, as this is part of the St Jacobs Way. Our original route was
cross country and we wouldn’t have so many options for
accommodation. We booked a lovely little apartment place with a
little kitchenette in Valence. I can see a day off coming! We
deserve it!
