The apartment in Valence was one of the
Appart'city chain, a newly converted 6 storey building right in the
middle of the town, just down a side street. It was perfectly
appointed, with a microwave and even dishwasher, dining table and
ubiquitous massive flat screen TV. Our 4th floor view out
of the tilt-open double glazed and shuttered windows was of a back
yard of a Chinese restaurant, but so what!
After eating ourselves into a great
sleep, we got up to good weather and explored the town. The cathedral
was one of the main points of the greater St Jacobs Way map, and we
thought we should have a look. We had a look around but got caught in
a downpour before we got food from the shop, so we had a bit of lunch
in the square, Eggs florentine and Tarte Saumon tartare. Very good
food.
We also had to post back our tent to
the UK along with a few other pieces. This turned out to be more
difficult than first thought as the French Postal service need a
French address to reference the parcel. The helpful woman in the post
office wouldn’t let me use the hotel address, despite their
concession. In the end we paid for a courier from the UK to pick it
up from the Apartment building and it cost less than the post. Mad.
