Day 11 - 18/04/2013 - A day off

The day off was planned to consist of getting some sun, some walking around and possibly a dip in the lake. What happened in fact was not that.

First there are no shops at all in Heiterwang other than a service station that only has a fridge full of beer (not necessarily a bad thing), two closed restaurants and a shop that opens between 07.00 and 10.00 for necessities like bread and beer. We got up and had a coffee and decided to go back to the last town which we remembered had a bakery, rather than just chance the local peoples shop in case it didn’t have anything for dinner. We set off in non-cycling pants for a 8km round-trip for goodies.

On the way to the bakery we discussed about how the camp site lady had told us that the nearest supermarket was 12km away in Reutte. On the GPS it said a Lidl was 6.88km away, in Reutte. We did a u-turn and made a beeline based purely on appetite.

It turned out to be tougher than we thought. Cue a cycle path blocked with a 5m high pile of hardcore, a frozen alternative cycle route, a steep main road descent into Reutte and a comical ascent back - where we had to wait 30mins in a traffic queue because they were detonating the cliffs onto the road to widen it.They do the alterations in the spring it seems.....

The route is logged, but not added to the total as it didn’t take us any closer to our destination! 23km and 500m just for kicks :)

When we eventually got back the sun had come out and we still had a nice afternoon walking around the lake and eating some pasta and sausages.

Also, congratulations Bastiaan and Elizabet!  Hello Samuel! :)
